America used to be known for a lotta pretty cool things. Streamlined cars with super fins, a cheeseburger with everything on it, and rock & roll to name just a few. But those innovations have gone the way of the Dodo bird, they’ve fallen afoul of a corporate need to re-dress everything that was, in order to make it cheaper, and to give it mass appeal; which also happens to make most things produced here today (which are very few by the way) suck! I don’t care about cheeseburgers, and you can’t buy a 1965 Thunderbird convertible anymore unless you go for an original, which’ll probably set you back a couple of hundred thousand bucks. No my beef is with Rock & Roll.

In the 1950’s rock & roll was born from Blues, R & B, gospel, and country music, Elvis thought he was a country singer until some girls saw him swinging his hips and began screaming uncontrollably, and from that moment on the cat was out of the bag so to speak, and it would never be put back. Rock & roll began to evolve.

It used to be that you would record a song, press it to a 45 disc, and take it yourself to your local radio station and literally give it to the DJ. If he liked it he would play it, and his audience would respond, and if they responded en-masse you had a hit on your hands, and you could record more because people liked your stuff, it said something to them, resonated with them, meant something.

Sadly today this is no longer the case, most of those independent radio stations that were run by people who cared about music, have been swallowed up by corporations who need to sell advertising on the strength of their listenership. These companies in turn rely on record labels to supply them with product, and that product is rapidly becoming a mystifyingly over produced hodge podge of insanity that leaves everybody wondering what the hell happened to good songs you can tap your feet to, or get involved with. Well, luckily for us singer/songwriters our local radio stations have now gone global.

I make music because I love making music; I write songs that I want people to relate to; and I am happiest when I have an audience. I’ve tried promoting my music to American radio, and I have good success with independent stations that care about music, but I am shutout of the syndicated stations because their Nashville pop playlists don’t play well with really innovative country rock music.

But it’s okay cats and kittens, we have a friend over at www.musikandfilm.com, his name is Stephen Wrench, he’s a musician himself, and God help him, he cares. He cares enough to have made your local radio station one in Paris, or Budapest, or London, or for that matter in any town or village worldwide. And get this, every time you release a song the last one, or two, or three are still there. So if a DJ suddenly cottons onto your sound, he has other songs he can draw on, and you’ll be getting played. Of course convincing the audience is still your job, and now you’ll get to sweat over the song, the vocals, the arrangement, and the mix. But at least you’ll have an audience, and believe me, that is worth its weight in gold!

November 15, 2013
Post Image

Musik Radio Promotions just released 2 singles for Mass Sky Raid and they are now on stations all over the world including 3 BBC networks each estimated at 20 million listeners at any one time.  “They are an awesome band”!

“We’re really excited to hear the latest reports and we can’t thank you and your team enough for giving us this opportunity”.. Reece, Mass Sky Raid

Modern alt/prog rock band Mass Sky Raid formed on the Gold Coast, Australia in 2011 and quickly made a name for themselves with support slots for Electric Horse, Twelve Foot Ninja and Dead Letter Circus. They soon set their sights set on heading to the studio; the resulting “Courage Under Fire” EP released earlier this year being an impressive debut to say the least, garnering rave reviews from everyone who hears it, including a 4.5 star out of 5 rating from Australia’s heavy duty rock bible Blunt Magazine.

The tracks were recorded at Loose Stones Studios with producer Matt Bartlem and engineer Tyse Lee; with ARIA award-winning producer Forrester Savell (Sing Sing, Melb) and producer J.R. McNeely (Nashville TN, US) taking on mixing duties. The 5 tracks were mastered by Grammy Award winner Tom Coyne (Pink, Adele, Cage The Elephant) at Sterling Sound in New York.

Live, Mass Sky Raid pour their heart and soul into their performances; creating an on-stage experience that sonically translates the emotional impacts and intricacies in their studio recordings. Their songs are exciting and have an easily-accessible sound with universal and relative concepts and hooks; and with the band already preparing to head back into the studio to record their follow-up release, you can expect to hear a lot more from and about Mass Sky Raid…

Musik Radio Promotions has just released the single ‘Lion’s Heart’ , by Musik and Film Records artist,  Skye, in a worldwide campaign. It was immediately picked up for airplay by BBC2 and hundreds of stations around the world.

‘Lions Heart’ is the first song  to begin a series of collaborations between Skye and Stephen Wrench.   Earlier this year, Skye signed a development and promotions deal with Stephen Wrench and Musik and Film Records.

Wrench  has been in the music business for over 40 years as singer/songwriter, producer and  record company executive for a major label .Wrench says of  Skye, “I  have worked with some major artists over the years. Every once in a great while you come across an artist with a unique, distinctive voice; one with a quality that makes you want to listen to them sing. Skye is just that kind of a artist. Her voice has a softness that draws you in as she sings from the soul.”
Wrench, who is now President of Musik and Film Records, has taken on Skye as a “pet” project. Wrench had been searching for that one special artist with the potential to produce hit songs. Not only does Skye have a unique voice, but she  has a unique way of crafting a song. As they write together, the combination of the two  is the perfect recipe for this blend of melodic music , unique lyrics and alluring vocals.
Stay tuned for much more to come!

“Quote of the Day”

August 30, 2013
Post Image

“As an independent artist, you are wasting your time trying to market yourself to commercial radio stations. They will NOT play your songs. It takes millions to tap that market. The average marketing budget for a new major label release is at least 5 million dollars. You can’t compete with that. ”

Alan Steward, Recording Artist and Producer

Carol Strickland going all the way with ‘Good Intentions’

August 26, 2013
Post Image

Carol Strickland signed a record and promotions deal with Musik and Film Records, a few short months ago.  ‘Good Intentions’,  Strickland’s,  EP was released  and Musik Radio Promotions began a campaign for the single, ‘Bitterness and Pain’.  The singer/songwriter’s song  immediately captured the attention of radio station managers across the globe including the BBC network and ECMA reporting stations.

Carol has went on to be critically acclaimed:

Stephen Wrench says of Carol, “he writes with honesty and sings with emotion. Carol draws you in as he tells his stories in song”.

” Without any pretentiousness, Carol Strickland  is true to his craft and easily demonstrates his compassion for each lyric, whether it concerns an abusive father in “Bitterness and Pain”, a love on the verge of being lost as in “Pouring Rain,” or an anthem of encouragement to givers in “Help Your Fellow Man. His “Good Intentions” project is a wonderful collection of a man who feels deeply for life, sings from the soul, and reminds all of us of our frailties and faith. It is his portrayal of faith and understanding of the struggle often to maintain it that sets Carol Strickland aside from other tune smiths.” Wayne Morton Operations Manager (Ret.)96.3 WGOG

Carol states, “After years of struggling to make it to the Country Radio airways and jacklegg promotion companies taking advantage of what money I had to spend. GOD brought me MUSIK AND FILM and I am more than satisfied. STEPHEN and Rhonda have truly brought this dream of mine to life. Being picked up by the BBC AND THE ECMA. Having more spins in 48 hours than I’ve had my entire music career.

Now playing on over 18,000 stations worldwide,  Carol can look forward to many more “spins” to come!
