Musik and Film is now partnering with Al Walsner’s US Top 20 Countdown!! Al produces the show out of Los Angeles, and it airs Thursday night every week,  counting down the Top 20 songs in the US.

Musik Radio Promotions artist, Resh, is  number 13 on this weeks top 20 countdown, with his song “Half the Man”!

Multi-talented, multiple award-winning artist RESH has forged a career in the Malaysian and International music scene virtually single-handedly, going from humble beginnings as a sound engineer to becoming one of the most recognizable faces of the Malaysian English music industry in the past eight years.

RESH unleashed himself onto the entertainment scene in 2003 when he released his debut album entitled “Monumental” under the then moniker, Reshmonu. The album took critics and fans by storm with hit singles like Walk Away and It’s You That Matters. The album earned him a whopping seven nominations at the premier Malaysian music industry award show, Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) in 2004, of which he proudly bagged three awards (Best Male Vocals, Best English-language Artiste, Best Engineering for an Album).

He has since established himself as the premier English Language market entertainer in Malaysia, loved and admired by fans worldwide and respected by his peers, and is among an elite few Malaysian artists who have consistently performed as opening act for internationally acclaimed acts touring in Malaysia such as Alicia Keys, Prodigy, Pussycat Dolls, The Black Eyed Peas, Nicole Scherzinger, Girls Generation, and many more. Taking his passion for music one step further, RESH also took on the role of director his music video for ‘The Way It Makes You Move’, which went on to earn him a nomination in the 2008 AIM Awards under the ‘Best Music Video’ Award category.

Most recently, RESH was selected to be featured in the video campaign for THE GLOBAL GOALS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT CAMPAIGN, a ground-breaking collaboration of campaigners, public figures, companies and civil society groups. The video also features celebrities and other influential people such as Bill Gates, Matt Damon, 5 Seconds of Summer and more.

Not only does he sing, write, produce, arrange and engineer his own music, RESH is a consummate perfectionist, overseeing virtually all stages in the process of creating an album which includes directing and editing his own music videos, art directing the artwork of his albums, working on his own unique image styling and plugging his music to local radio stations.

Musik and Film World Touring Updates!

November 4, 2015
Post Image
Musik and Film has heard artists commenting for years now “We cant make any money playing in the US!”
We heard you indie artists, and we’ve responded. Musik and Film has been networking hard to provide artists with the ability to tour the world. We have been crafting touring packages specific to certain countries and regions of the world, one at a time to help the artist focus their efforts on building their brand outside of their local regions. Our first packages was for the country of India. Which has 4 times the population of the US and we call “The Sleeping Giant”. We quickly followed up with the China / Asia touring package. We are very pleased to  bring you our New Zealand Touring Package! Now you can build your fanbase in the Oceania region of the world with some of our fellow music lovers from down under. The package system essentially works like this: Musik and Film charges a service fee to set up your tour in the desired country. We can provide radio support for your tour. Then we partner with sponsors to try to get as much of the cost of logistics and travel absorbed as we can to maximize your potential gain. We then strategize the best means of creating and transporting merchandising options, and solidify custom dates for your tour, between festivals and venues in the target region. Then YOU travel to the country, blow their minds with your amazing music and performance skills, and sell out all of your merchandise and rush home to tell everyone about how amazing your trip was! Neil Young was recently heard saying that the only money left for the indie artists these days is found in touring the world and performing live. So extend your fanbase, play your hearts out, and tour the world. Don’t worry Musik and Film is here to help! Contact the Touring Promotions Team at Musik and Film today to start setting up your tours!!!

Major Artists Continue to Express Distaste for Major Labels

September 22, 2015
Post Image

Win Butler, front man of Arcade Fire, was recently interviewed by The Independent and he had some things to say about the state of the major label music industry today, and those responsible for it.

In an effort to  help find ways to change the music industry for the better, Arcade Fire became involved with the launch of Jay Z’s Tidal streaming service. The service itself has mostly failed to take off due to mishandling that Butler claims are due to the major labels themselves. He states:

“The major label music industry has completely ruined every aspect of their business. At every step of the way they’ve had the tools offered to them to create an industry that works, and they’ve completely blown it. That’s why we never had any interest in signing a contract with one of these companies because they’re clearly completely clueless.”

Arcade Fire is an excellent example of independent artists who have put in the the time, the talent, and the focus to treat themselves like a business and work their way to the top. Founded in 2001, Arcade Fire formed as an indie Canadian band between two classmates and went on to release their debut album “Funeral” in 2004, a little over a decade later they are one of the biggest indie bands in the world all due to handwork and perseverance.

Arcade Fire is able to see the forest for the trees, and they are trying to help save the forest that is the music industry. They can tell that the Majors are grasping at straws trying to keep the industry afloat and they’re so far entirely unsuccessful. Musik and Film Records has been ahead of the Majors for years, empowering the indie artist with the tools they need to take their music to the next level! If you want YOUR music heard around the world on over 250,000 stations? Then contact the Musik Radio Promotions team today to start YOUR promotional campaign!!!

How does an Indie Artist get a Radio Hit In The United States?

September 16, 2015
Post Image

I have been in the music industry a good 40 years including serving as VP of a division with a major label. I have seen a lot of changes and then some things never change. I was recently asked by a very good independent artist “I am just as good as anyone I hear on the American top 40 why do I have to pay to get a radio hit record in the US?”

Good question. There are a lot of artists out there that are every bit as good as who you hear on the Top 40. Why don’t you hear these people? One reason is there are 9 radio conglomerates that monopolize all the Billboard reporting stations they are http://www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/1358081/abc-news-payola-probe-shifts-to-radio

The we have the article on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payola  This article tells us all about how payola is illegal. But there is always more than one way to skin a cat. The Record and Radio Industry are big business. Big Business has no ear for talent just making money, that’s the American way. http://blog.sonicbids.com/5-surprising-things-you-probably-didnt-know-about-record-labels

If you google this subject you will really have to read between the lines because no one wants to admit how corrupt radio and the business of hit songs still are today. See http://www.forbes.com/sites/melindanewman/2015/03/05/heres-how-it-cost-6-9-million-to-make-robin-thickes-blurred-lines-a-hit/

The fact is in days of old many promoters used to bring in bags of cash to drop in DJ’s or Music Programmers hands. Again see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payola. If you want your record played on major US stations its business as always Pay to Play.

Even though legislation was passed payola in some form or the other still exists. The estimates vary, but the number is around one million when all is said and done to get a hit record. http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2011/07/05/137530847/how-much-does-it-cost-to-make-a-hit-song

Yes a good artist can get played on B and tertiary stations along with college radio in the US. But this will not translate to a Billboard hit. http://www.tunecore.com/blog/2011/09/how-to-get-your-song-on-commercial-radio.html

I could reference articles all day long. The fact is if you want a hit on US radio then you have to pay for it and handsomely. Estimates range from $50,000 to in excess of $1,000,000.00 in promotional costs and payoffs.

But if you want a Gold record in the US all you have to do is stream yourself a half a million times and that Gold record is yours. Total cost $3500.00. But that doesn’t mean anyone will hear it.

However, indie artists can make a good living and can tour the world. The fact is you need radio airplay to be able to successfully tour. People have to know who you are. Yes there is streaming. But who is gonna hear you among billions of songs? You need radio airplay to tour.

Indie artists, you don’t have a million dollars for promotion? First hire a good radio promoter who covers the world. Outside the US the type of corruption referenced above does not exist. Radio outside the US will play good music. They don’t care if it’s from a major label or a indie artist, as long as it good music they will play it.

After you are getting played contact the stations that are playing you and thank them. Offer them radio liners, radio interviews and offer to send them a dozen promo give- away cds. Radio likes to offer their listening audience giveaways. To give your cds away, they play you more, mention who you are more and increase your exposure. Once you have done this you are that radio station’s friend.

So then ask the stations that are playing you who are their advertising venues. Get their contact information. Call, email those venues. Tell them you are playing on xyz radio station in their town and want to come to their town to perform. Let the radio stations know you are going to do this and they will back you because if the venue hires you the venue will hire them to advertise the performance.

This will get you even more exposure on that radio station. Radio will love you because they got the venues advertising dollars because of you. You get a performance date that is well advertised and a radio station that is playing your music and supporting you. Most likely when you go to perform you will have a full house of people who came to see you. You will sell merchandise, gain fans and if you do a good performance be asked to come back again. Everyone wins.

You don’t have a top 40 Billboard hit but you are getting airplay around the world. You can now book gigs around the world successfully, for decent money. You may or may not attain superstar status but you can perform around the world and make a good living.

If you are interested in our radio promotion service, please feel free to contact us. We boast a database of 250,000 stations and syndicates in 180 countries.
