Khylune’s, Made in China, a You Tube hit!

September 22, 2013
Post Image

Malaysian native, Khylune, after speaking with Stephen Wrench decided on a whim to fly to Jacksonville, Florida to record with Musik and Film Production Team. The mission was to write a few songs together. The conversation in the studio turned to China. Wrench related, “When I was a kid all the trinkets and cheap junk was made in China and now its the opposite . China has become an industrial giant. So we began writing a song “Made In China” . The afternoon turned silly while recording and one of the writers, Skye Bailey along with Khylune became so fatigued that the comic relief started. The two paired up for 15 minutes making up “on the spot” innuendos and the word, “Chinglish” was born!

“Khy was such a joy to work with”, says Charlton,”the creative juices just kept flowing”.

The hit single was released to worldwide airplay by Musik Radio Promotions and  picked up by the BBC network for airplay in minutes.

We dare you to watch this video – it will be in your head!!

Testimonial of the week!

Rhett May on working with Musik and Film Production Team:

“I feel I built a rapport with Stephen from day one….very easy going and likeable guy…and nothing was too hard…we shared some stories that are insane and I guess we come from a similar background in music…a similar era…the classic rock ’When the van is rockin’ don’t come knockin’ era…and the influences very much gel.

Their interpretations and ideas did surprise me at times…but I listened and absorbed and came away with a sense of excitement that Stephen and Terry….. that someone like Musik and Film were actually interested enough to take the time in listening to my songs, tearing them apart…positively…and then helping me put them back together in ways that I hadn’t considered.

I think that they’ve taught me a number of things…and I’m grateful …I’m always learning and will certainly incorporate some of their fundamentals moving forward.

I love the rawness and the naturalness they’ve brought out particularly on the second track “Insatiable”. It’s emotive and raw and passionate…”forget trying to make your voice sound good…just let your emotions run”…so said Stephen…..let it blend with the exciting acoustic guitars.”   Rhett May

How to get USA radio airplay

August 26, 2013
Post Image

You write what you think is a hit. So now what do you do?

You go online and look for radio promotion companies. You think it’s simple – if you can get it out to radio they will know your song is a hit and it will be played and will chart. Wrong!

Getting airplay differs all over the world. Lets take the US, for example, everyone no matter where you live, wants US airplay.

Clear Channels entered into revenue sharing agreements with numerous record labels. Clear Channels is even called a “Media Mobster”.
You are an Independent artist, why do you think you are going to be played by the United States largest radio conglomerate? You may have a hit, a great song. But this is a money game, like most big business controlled by giants, so only giants have access.

If you want to get a hit in the US you will have to play the game. Meaning you better have some very deep pockets to play in this high stakes game. You will need to hire a team of promoters to maneuver your song into the charts. This team will need to be in a position to grease the airplay wheels to get your song played. Call it payola, call it big business, call it what you want. But the bottom line is unless you have a million dollars to drop into your single you are not going to get a hit record in the US.

So where does that leave you and your “hit” song? There are a lot of countries in the world. Most are very receptive to hearing and playing good music. The BBC radio network is the largest radio network in the world.
Guess what? They listen to independent artists music and if they like it they play it. There are numerous other radio networks and stations around the world that don’t care who the label is and don’t care if you are an indie artist. The only thing they care about is it good music.  So, there is hope.

It is a digital world so why would anyone send a cd to radio? There are radio promotion companies that advertise – pay us and we will put your music on our site. The premise is that radio will sign in and wade thru the thousands of songs and find yours. Wrong again. You need to deliver your song by a respected radio promoter digitally to the radio station programmers. This way they can stream a piece of your music and if they like it then they will look at the rest of your submission, download it and play your music.

How to get radio airplay in the US?

There is always a way to get in the US front door , sometimes you need to go in the back door to be in the house.

David Shanhun has released his new single, ‘I Believe in You’ to worldwide radio through Musik Radio Promotions.

David launched his career as a professional musician enjoying early success as a finalist in the 2010 Singer Songwriter Syndicate’s “Singer/Songwriter” competition. The following year David was nominated for the Horizon Award (promising new artist) at the New Zealand Country Music Awards and was a nominee for the Pat McMinn Rising Star Award.

In 2012 David’s single “Missing You” held the number one spot on NZ weekly chart for five weeks. In 2013 David became the only artist to have been nominated twice for the coveted Horizon Award.

David has now released a new single, ‘I Believe in You”.  Working with the production team at Musik and Film, David spoke of the experience, “Admittedly I was nervous about working with Musik and Film, as I was already happy with my track “I Believe In You” as it was. Stephen and Eric have taken a good mix and made it superb – PLUS been a pleasure to work with. They have been great to communicate with (even when I misunderstood things), and quick to make changes I requested to really nail the fine details. I look forward to a growing relationship and more good things to come!

David’s new single has been released for international airplay by Musik Radio and is already receiving rave reviews, “Once again you stopped me in my tracks with an Artist who is breaking sound barriers. David Shanhun is absolutely remarkable. I will begin airplay immediately!”..David needs to be heard!.. Shashona McCall

The team at Musik and Film agree, and will be working closely with David on near future releases.

There is a bright future for this New Zealander.  David speaks of his future plans, “I am SUPER excited to be launching this track to Radio with Musik Radio Promotions and currently planning a tour for late October in NZ (and possibly a few dates in Australia). I will be performing at the National Country Music Awards in August as I have been nominated for the Horizon Award again this year. (I’m the only artist to have ever been nominated twice!). All in all a massive year and looking forward to many more great things to come!”

Dustin Walker’s destiny was set when he was pulled on stage at the tender age of 2 by Ronnie Grinel to go on stage with Rick Springfield.

Dustin is all grown up now and as such, he is ready to smash all barriers with his new EP,  **’Between the Lines’.

‘Between the Lines’ will be released in conjunction with Walker’s CD release party July 26th in Kansas City. Walker will be opening  for Rick Springfield in Kansas City, July 27th.

The EP consists of 5 tracks, produced by Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Wrench.  Walker co-wrote 4 of the tracks: Body Bag, I Can’t Do Anything For You, Tonight and Curses.  The 5th track is an acoustic version of ‘Best of You’, by The Foo Fighters.

‘Between the Lines’  was recorded and mixed by Cameron Mitchell  at Roar Music’s Studio 446 in the Scenic Rim, Queensland.  Cameron recalls the experience, “Dustin Walker was an absolute pleasure to work with. I think it was an interesting experience for both of us and definitely a challenge working on opposite sides of the world and within such a short time frame, but Dustin was always open to advice and was always happy to take ideas on board. All in all, we had a blast! I would work with this talented young man again any day!”

Rick Brewer, drummer on the project, said ”  Cameron Mitchell, Jordan Fearnside and I love a challenge. But think we succeeded in getting for  Dustin  his vision of what he wanted.”

Stephen Wrench, President Musik and Film agrees,  “its real, this is whats happening now in music and on radio”

Listen to clips of upcoming releases of ‘Between the Lines’ at this link.

Stay tuned to this blog post for more news!

**These are new versions of these tracks.  Due to a dispute with the former producer regarding ownership of the Masters, credits of a studio musician, and billing overages beyond the paid contractual obligation ,  Musik and Film Records and Dustin Walker were unable to release any former versions.
