A quick glance at the credits for this Lithuanian band’s fourth album, and you immediately sit up and take notice. Recorded partly at Liscornbe Park studios here in the UK it was produced by John Young who also provides backing vocals and additional keyboards and engineered by Steve Rispin. In addition, the guest list includes Dave Kilminster and Anne Marie Helder, and the drummer for the whole session is Martin Beedle of Cutting Crew. Recorded in the late spring of 2010 it has taken a while to surface, but it was well worth the wait. There is strong Pink Floyd/Roger Waters vibe right through the album, and Kilrninster’s work on the up-beat title track is right at home. The Waters-like vocals with strong female backing make “Is This The Way” and “When The Western Wind Blows” sound as though they could have come from one of the great man’s solo albums. While the comparison is unavoidable there is enough of The Skys themselves in this record to make it original. If you are a fan of the swirling keyboards and big emotional sounding guitar solos you will not go wrong with this. The only question left unanswered is why has it taken 15years and four albums for me to hear of The Skys.

George Cahill has been rocking the Philly scene for awhile and is now celebrating his latest release, “Relevant”. It is 9 tracks of brutal honesty accompanied by some tight instrumentation to drive his point home.

Cahill does a nice rendition of Bob Seger’s, “Still the Same”. He has a unique portrayal of the song and makes it his own with a conversational style to his singing; it is kind of like hanging in a coffee shop as he tells you about his day. Then serenades us all with, “This Land is Your Land”, with the sweetest harmonies and most lonesome harmonica I have ever heard.

Musik and Film and Cinderella Records has signed an exclusive distribution deal for new Single Place Called Home from the group ‘Endless Interstate’.

Hailing from Bath Maine this duo comprised of former ‘Liquid Daydream’ members Matthais Sampson (vocals, congas & bongos, djembe, acoustic guitar, mandolin, harmonica and percussion) and Christian Muccino (acoustic & electric guitars, bass guitar, percussion and orchestral sounds) brings more than 20 years of making music together to Cinderella Records. Two decades worth of music collaboration has created a sound and unity that is time honed with the patina of experience.

The new single “Place Called Home” displays what this duo does best. With tight harmonies, simple clean rhythms, and honestly delivered lyrics we see why these two musicians have made a career of making music together. Chris’s guitar playing is graceful, both the acoustic and the electric, and this piece rolls smoothly. The lyrics carry a haunting sense of despair as Matt gently croons about the plight of the homeless.”
