Biography

John de Freitas was born and raised on the beautiful island of Aruba. After finishing his secondary school on Aruba John went to study Biology at the University of Leyden in The Netherlands. After finishing his studies, he returned to Aruba and worked there as a Biology teacher. Because of his love for scientific research he moved to sister island of Curaçao to work there as a researcher at a biological research institute. He has also obtained academic degrees in Business Administration and Civil law and speaks six languages (English, Dutch, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Papiamentu). He has often devoted part of his spare time by serving on the board of social organizations.

Since he was a teenager he had an interest in making music (especially singing) and composing songs. John has taken singing lessons with different vocal coaches on Curaçao and has song in different choirs on the island. He has a sonorous lyric baritone voice. Performing as a solo vocalist has always been his dream and that dream became reality when he got the chance some six years ago to start working with other talented local and international musicians. He has now released his first gospel cd entitled ‘Walk in love / Qué alegría qué gozo’. This cd consists of an interesting combination of English and Spanish songs and a delightful variety in Latin rhythms and ballads. Besides writing gospel songs, John also writes love songs and songs that convey a positive or meaningful message. He composes songs in several languages: English, Spanish, Dutch and Papiamentu (the latter is a language spoken on the Dutch Caribbean islands of Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire). Writing in Portuguese is also on his list of future projects. We will surely hear more from this talented musician!
